Happy Final New Week of the Year and Happy Holidays!

I was going to resume work today, but I decided to give myself the day off. It is good to rest when you have worked.

However, I have learned, and quite recently too, that rest shouldn’t be a reward for labour. It should be a normal part of life.

I used to pride myself as an extremely hard worker. I could work 7 days a week, for months at a time, especially if I had my hands full with a lot of projects.

I would schedule rest times as reward for finishing my work. I learned very late that this was a very wrong mindset to have, and that working myself to exhaustion did not help me become more productive.

I would find myself breaking down and having to take even longer recovery times because my body would give in and refuse to bounce back on “half tank”.

So I want to take back a saying I used to preach about in the past, about working through holidays and end-of-year festivities.

I have grown and I have learned that it is good to take regular rest periods. It is good to stop and breathe. It is good to spend time with family and loved ones as the year comes to an end and remind yourself of what is truly important.

And if working through the holidays is important to you, you go right ahead and do it. Do what is best for your physical and mental health at each point in time.

Caveat: This is not to excuse laziness and procrastination. Don’t now say that VC said we should rest, when you know you have things to do. I didn’t say that o. Do your work.

If you find yourself unmotivated this period, and you really want to get into the flow of work, especially in the coming year, why don’t you join a group of like-minded people who are on the same journey as you?

My Inner Circle Membership begins in January and our inaugural spots are almost filled up. Read all about it here.

We look forward to welcoming everyone of you soon.

Thanks to everyone who wished me a Merry Christmas both in words and in bank alerts. I appreciate you. Keep them coming.
